LWD Candidate Statements National Women’s Committee

Ann Henderson

A279236 East Lothian CLP

With experience over many years of Party activity, at local and national level, I am seeking support for election to the National Labour Women’s Committee. I can contribute to building an effective Labour women’s organisation.

Previously I have served on the NEC, chaired the NEC Equalities committee, participated in the Women’s Committee. I have also been a member of the Scottish Executive and the Scottish Labour Women’s committee in the past. I am currently a GMB member. From Glasgow Maryhill Labour Women’s Section in the 1980s to organising with women in the trade union movement today, I believe that the Labour Party is stronger with a policy-making National Labour Women’s Organisation. Party democracy matters.

We need well-evidenced policies which are founded on the reality of women’s lives

  • A well-resourced Labour Women’s Committee, working on the campaigns and priorities set by women members.
  • Regular updates to all women members
  • Policy-making Annual women’s Conferences, at national level and in Scotland and Wales

Supported by Labour Women’s Declaration. Please also nominate and vote for Emina Ibrahim, Laura Pascal, Miriam Rice.

Emine Ibrahim

L0150489 Haringey CLP

I have been an active member of the Labour Party in Haringey for 15 years. I am currently a Labour Councillor and previously served as Deputy Leader of Haringey Council. I previously sat on London Regional Executive for many years as well as the National Constitutional Committee which I also chaired for 1 year.

I have a strong track record of representing ordinary party members voices therefore I would like to bring this experience to the National Women’s Committee. I would like to use my voice to ensure that women are at the centre of the policy making affecting us. Policy must be rooted in the reality of women’s’ lives and a strong democratically functioning, campaigning and well resourced NWC can make a huge difference.

I am standing with the backing of Labour Women’s Declaration. Please also support Ann Henderson, Laura Pascal and Miriam Rice.

Laura Pascal

L1178125 Hackney North and Stoke Newington CLP

I have been an active member of Hackney North and Stoke Newington CLP for over a decade, holding positions at branch and CLP executive level and have stood as a Labour candidate in marginal council seats in the north of Hackney twice. I am currently head of public affairs at a human-rights charity.

I am standing to represent ordinary Labour women CLP members on the National Women’s Committee to:

• Stand up for women’s sex-based rights within the Party and beyond
• Ensure that the issues which matter to female Party members are heard
• Renew and build the role of the NWC in setting policy direction on issues affecting women

I am standing with the backing of Labour Women’s Declaration. Please also support Ann Henderson, Emine Ibrahim and Miriam Rice.

Miriam Rice

B013649 Ealing North CLP

I have been a councillor for seven years, and I have served in officer roles across the Labour and Co-op parties including CLP Secretary, Campaign Co-ordinator, and Election Agent. My union is the GMB.

Standing up for issues impacting women, I have spoken up on matters including

  • Often ignored realities for Afghan women and girls
  • Uyghur women facing incredible suffering
  • Women cocoa farmers deserving a better deal and Fairtrade

The realities raised by Labour Women’s Declaration are so often ignored also, and it is time for change.

I am standing with support from Labour Women’s Declaration:

  • To welcome debate on the rights of women to single sex spaces and safety
  • To maintain the rights of women to self-organise
  • To move forward on the myriad of issues affecting women

There is so much to applaud as to the bravery of many in our party and our responses to the Cass Review, the Sullivan Review, and also regarding high-profile cases in the courts. May we continue to acknowledge the reality of sex and its impact on the lives of women and girls everywhere.

Please also support Ann Henderson, Emine Ibrahim and Laura Pascal.
