What we do

We work to ensure that Labour Party policies and practices protect sex-based rights in law, including single-sex services and spaces, the protected characteristic of same-sex sexual orientation, fair participation in sport, safeguarding of gender questioning children, and the right to self-organise and to speak freely.

We campaign for the accurate and reliable collection of sex-disaggregated data, to support evidence-based policies across government that address women’s economic, social, and political inequality.

Policy and legal expertise

We provide legal analysis, evidence and policy briefings to inform Labour Party policy, support internal debate, and engage the trade union movement.

Supporting politicians

We work proactively with Labour MPs, MSPs, peers, councillors, candidates and advisers, offering briefings, policy documents, and expert insight on sex-based rights.

Representation and leadership

We promote women’s participation and leadership at every level of the Labour Party and trade unions, strengthening accountability and ensuring equal representation, with women’s voices central to policy and decision-making.

Devolved work

Through our sister LWD groups in Cymru (Wales) and Scotland, we also advocate for sex-based rights within the devolved administrations. Our mission is clear – to safeguard women’s and girls’ hard-won rights, strengthen democratic debate within our party, and build a fairer future for women and girls.
